Finding the news online? That’s easy. Finding UNBIASED NEWS, or different sources, that can be a bit harder. Ann Marie can help you, though!
First, my favorite site for news is Google News. It is a news directory and search engine. It will get news stories from many sources, and you go straight to the source, yourself. And if you heard a rumor somewhere? Just type in their news search engine. If it happened recently and made the news, it’s probably in there.
And speaking of verifying rumors, there are three sites good for that. Snopes, which is particularly good for those emails you get from friends of friends — nothing like sending a link back to someone showing them that no, The Gap will NOT give you $100 for forwarding that email. There is also The Urban Legends Archive, which is self explanatory. Lastly, and most entertaining to me, is The Straight Dope, Fighting Ignorance Since 1973. Urban Legends, rumours, strange history, all here.
For more specific stuff, there is Dan Savage for some of the more unique sexual questions, and for more medical oriented personal questions, Columbia University has Go Ask Alice. And if you want to know How Stuff Works, that’s the place to find out!
And the source for information on religions, and what various faiths believe, and their stands on different issues, the vast Religious Tolerance is the place to go.
Armed with these links, you should be able to tell truth from fiction in your inbox, and be able to pass on the truth to others. At the very least, you’ll be really good at Trivial Pursuit.
