The University of Washington’s student senate rejected a memorial for alumnus Gregory "Pappy" Boyington of "Black Sheep Squadron" fame amid concerns a military hero who shot down enemy planes was not the right kind of person to represent the school.
Student senator Jill Edwards, according to minutes of the student government’s meeting last week, said she "didn’t believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce."
Clearly, they fail at life. Somewhere along the line, they were failed as well, to not understand the sacrifices this man made. Even with my skittish views towards war, I can’t understand the disrespect they are giving this man.
It blows my mind how they ignore the facts (i.e. he wasn’t a ‘rich white man’ as they claim) to blow hot air and parade around their sheepish views. And even if it were the case, does his race or financial status make his sacrifices any less? Crazy talk.
