When asked about the proposed amendment to ban desecration of the American flag, George Bush was quoted as saying, "I’ll sign it."

Weeksville Society

Weeksville Society Home Page.

I’ve always been facinated with the discovery of Weeksville.  It was a 19th century African American community that was ‘rediscovered’ in 1968, when 4 remaining buildings were discovered from the air.

I think it would be a great place to take pictures, to think that it was left there over the years and just about forgotten about, and is now a piece of history, preserved.

I should see which trains go there — would make a nice day trip.

I remember when I was a docent at the NY Aquarium, as long as you had your tshirt on, you could get on for free. The rumor was that the Cyclone was built on Aquarium property (I could check propertyshark if I were so inclined) and you could get on for free. Of course, the Aquarium came decades AFTER the Cyclone. I suspect it was just good will on the part of the owners and workers, who were always very nice to us.

My daughter was wondering when she’d be old enough to go — maybe this year we’ll measure her up to the little sign on the side and she can go on with Daddy. A family tradition in the making.

Every night I go to the corner store to get things I need for the morning, to visit my friends who hang out, get some fresh air.  Last night was no different.

So, I get my stuff, say my goodbyes, and start walking home.  I turn down my court and hear that thud of a crashing car — but no glass. A few more bangy, thuddy sounds and nothing. I start to walk up just in time to see an entire wheel fly through the air and land at my feet.

Apparently, this guy got his front end worked on, his brakes, all sorts of stuff, and they didn’t put his wheel on right.  His wheel flew off, and as he carefully pulled his car over, the tire hit a sign, bounced off THAT, flew over to a parked car, bounced off THAT and that’s where it landed.  A perfect Z.  Ok, a backwards Z.  Everyone was ok, and that’s when I heard my cousin laughing his head off, telling the driver it was the best thing he saw all night!

So that was weird enough, but this morning something else happened.  My mom came to pick me up to take us to Target, to do some shopping.  She called to say she was here, and that there were police around.

Sure enough, just before my mom got there, another wheel flew off, but this time the driver couldn’t keep control and a number of cars were smashed up.  The wheel flew off on the same block, within yards of where the one fell off last night.  Something about my street causes tires to just fly through the air, I suppose.

I need to start wearing a helmet, or something.
